MUSCAT : Oman’s telecommunications regulator is reviewing children’s use of social media platforms following studies indicating potential negative effects, with a final framework expected by the end of the third quarter, a senior official said.
Oman’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) is undertaking a comprehensive review of children’s engagement with social media after some studies highlighted possible adverse impacts, according to Eng. Omar Al Ismaili, Chief Executive of the Authority.
Al Ismaili said the current situation represents a positive step toward reassessing how children use social networking platforms, amid growing global concerns about online safety and digital wellbeing.

The Authority plans to open discussions with members of the public and various sectors to gather feedback before finalising its approach. The final vision on the matter is expected to be ready by the end of the third quarter.
He added that the TRA will also examine international experiences and coordinate with internet service providers and content production companies to better monitor and address the issue.
