MUSCAT : Oman’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) is set to issue a new consumer protection regulation aimed at tackling intrusive and fraudulent messages, with the framework expected to be released next month, a senior official said on Tuesday.
The move comes as authorities step up efforts to combat unsolicited promotional texts and scam messages that have drawn increasing complaints from subscribers.
The Deputy Head of the Telecommunications Regulation Sector said the TRA is currently preparing a regulation to govern advertising text messages and curb intrusive communications, adding that the new rules will be issued soon.

Oman has in recent years intensified oversight of the telecommunications sector as part of broader digital governance reforms, seeking to strengthen consumer rights and improve trust in electronic communications.
Further details on enforcement mechanisms and penalties are expected to be announced once the regulation is formally issued.
