MUSCAT – Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Al Busaidi met his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi in Muscat on Friday ahead of a new round of indirect talks between Iran and the United States, Iran’s state news agency IRNA reported.
The meeting took place about an hour before the start of the non-direct negotiations with Washington, during which the two ministers reviewed key bilateral, regional and international issues, including the Iranian nuclear file, according to the report.
Oman has for years played a mediating role between Tehran and Washington, hosting and facilitating indirect contacts amid strained relations and heightened tensions over Iran’s nuclear programme and wider regional security concerns.
