Oman reports over 3,600 cases of child abuse in 2025, including 106 rapes

The Public Prosecution has revealed that more than 3,600 cases of child abuse were reported across the Sultanate in 2025, including a range of sexual, physical, and exploitation-related offenses.

MUSCAT – Speaking at the annual conference to review the year’s statistics and performance indicators, officials reported that 106 cases of child rape were recorded last year.

Other offenses included:

  • 1,245 cases related to child sexual harassment.
  • 1,212 cases involved various forms of violence against minors.
  • 846 instances of exposing a child to delinquency.
  • 68 cases involved using or handing over children for begging.
  • 51 cases were filed against those employing children under 18 in their care.
  • 30 cases of possessing child pornography via the internet or modern technology.
  • 24 cases of violating a child’s right to complete basic education.
  • 27 cases involved encouraging minors to engage in sexual activities.
