MUSCAT : The coordination meeting, scheduled from February 1 to 3, will examine global developments in air traffic management and address challenges affecting air traffic flows across the Middle East and at inter-regional contact points. Discussions will focus on improving airspace management, enhancing regional coordination, and updating joint agreements between countries on air traffic services.

This will be followed by the Crisis Management Workshop from February 4 to 5, 2026, which will review ICAO’s emergency planning requirements, the Emergency Coordination Team mechanism, and the exchange of experiences between ICAO regions. The workshop will place particular emphasis on strengthening cross-border coordination and developing effective regional emergency arrangements.

The hosting of the meeting and workshop underscores the Sultanate of Oman’s growing role as an active regional hub in civil aviation, supporting ICAO’s efforts to enhance regional and international cooperation while raising safety and operational efficiency across regional airspace.

The events will bring together 90 participants, including experts, specialists, and airspace users, representing 19 countries, three international organisations, and three airlines.

Engineer Saleh bin Abdullah Al Harthi, Director General of Air Navigation at the Civil Aviation Authority, said that Oman’s hosting of these events reflects its rising status as a regional and international centre for technical cooperation in civil aviation. He noted that the meetings aim to enhance coordination and integration between countries, develop joint cooperation mechanisms, and discuss best practices and operational plans to ensure the continuity of air navigation services and preparedness for emergencies.
