MUSCAT — SalamAir said it will launch a new direct route between Muscat and Medan, Indonesia, from July 3, 2026, marking its first non-stop service to the Southeast Asian nation as it pushes ahead with its Asian expansion strategy.

The twice-weekly service will strengthen air connectivity between Oman and Indonesia and expand SalamAir’s footprint in high-growth Asian markets, the airline said. One-way fares will start from RO 79.99, with tickets available via the airline’s website and mobile app.

Medan, the capital of North Sumatra, is a key commercial centre and gateway to major tourist attractions including Lake Toba and the Bukit Lawang rainforest, offering growing potential for both leisure and business travel.

“Launching Medan reflects our strategic approach to network expansion, aimed at connecting high-growth yet under-served markets with strong demand potential,” said Steven Allen, chief commercial officer of SalamAir. “Indonesia is a key market for tourism, trade and workforce mobility, and this route allows us to stimulate new traffic flows while leveraging Muscat as an efficient hub.”

The new service will also enable onward one-stop connections via Muscat to destinations across the Gulf, Middle East and Africa, including Jeddah, Dammam, Doha, Kuwait, Sharjah, Baghdad, Beirut, Tehran, Nairobi and Salalah.

Mohamad Irzan Djohan, Indonesia’s ambassador to Oman, welcomed the launch, saying the Muscat–Medan route would help strengthen trade, tourism, investment and people-to-people ties between the two countries, while improving air links between the Gulf and the island of Sumatra.

Flights will operate twice weekly, with schedules designed to support smooth onward connections through Muscat, SalamAir said.
