MUSCAT : The certification serves as an extension to the ISO 27001 Information Security Management System already held by the Centre.

His Excellency Dr. Khalifa bin Abdullah Al Barwani, CEO of NCSI, stated that obtaining the ISO 27701 certification reflects the Centre’s ongoing efforts to foster a secure statistical and information environment grounded in personal data protection and adherence to the highest privacy standards across all its operations and digital platforms.

His Excellency added that this milestone demonstrates the Centre’s commitment to developing robust systems and policies that ensure secure and transparent data management, while meeting the requirements of international legislation and standards, including global frameworks for data privacy protection.

He explained that the certification was granted after NCSI successfully passed all evaluation and audit stages to verify its compliance with the standard’s requirements—confirmation of the strength and integration of the Centre’s privacy and data protection system and its ability to adopt best international practices.

The CEO noted that the certification builds on the Centre’s ongoing implementation of a comprehensive privacy and information security management program. It also acknowledges NCSI’s role in establishing an effective monitoring and preventive system that enhances confidence in the quality of the data and information it provides.

His Excellency affirmed that achieving ISO 27701 will help raise the Centre’s security readiness, enhance personal data protection, and support the development of an information environment built on the highest levels of security and reliability. It will also strengthen the Centre’s ability to mitigate risks associated with data breaches or human errors, further consolidating its position as a leading institution in digital governance and information protection in the Sultanate of Oman.

The ISO 27701 standard provides a comprehensive framework for the secure and transparent management of personal data. It assists organizations in complying with privacy legislation, including the GDPR, and helps define clear roles and responsibilities for data controllers and processors, improving governance efficiency and organizational processes.
