MUSCAT: The Ministry of Labour is working on legislation that will set term for expats in leadership roles and to give top positions to Omani citizens working in private sector, Sheikh Nasr Al Hosni, Undersecretary of Labour at the Ministry of Labour said.

“We are working on a legislation that will ensure expatriates do not stay in leadership positions for long,” Al Hosni said in an interview with Al Wisal radio.

According to Al Hosni, the new legislation is part of the Ministry’s efforts in regulating the labour market. “We are working to ensure more citizens get jobs and that is the priority of the ministry. We are looking at company by company to replace expats with Omanis,” Al Hosni said.

Al Hosni on Monday issued a circular scrapping the minimum wage required for Omani job seekers regardless of their academic degree. However, Al Hosni said the Ministry will not interfere in determining salaries for job seekers. “We do not interfere in determining the salary between the enterprise and the worker. Both the parties will have to come to an agreement. We do not have a role in it,” Al Hosni added.
