MUSCAT : Oman’s Nama on Friday issued a clarification following widespread speculation surrounding the deaths of six members of a family in the Al Amerat district, stating that no electricity service had been disconnected at the residence where the carbon-monoxide incident occurred.
The company extended its condolences to the family, who died earlier this week after reportedly inhaling carbon monoxide from a gas leak inside their home. The case has drawn national attention and prompted discussions on social media about whether a utility cutoff may have contributed to the tragedy.
Nama Supply said the property operated on a prepaid metering system, meaning electricity is topped up in advance by the property owner, and confirmed that the service had not been suspended prior to the incident. “We affirm that the property where the incident occurred was not subjected to any service disconnection by the company, as the meter operates on a prepayment system initiated by the property owner,” the company said in a statement.

The utility added that it provides flexible instalment plans for customers with overdue payments and offers multiple facilities linked to prepaid meters to prevent service interruptions, stressing that measures are in place to reduce financial pressure on families.
Nama urged the public to rely on “accurate information from official sources,” warning against the circulation of unverified claims out of respect for the bereaved family. The company said it remains committed to service continuity and transparency.
