MUSCAT – The survey, implemented by the Department of Statistics and Information at the Ministry, was conducted to study the alignment of higher education outputs with the national labour market requirements, found that 68 percent of employers have hired Omani graduates.

The survey also aimed to identify the skills and competencies needed in different economic sectors.
The closing ceremony was held under the patronage of Her Excellency Dr. Rahma Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation.

In her speech, the minister stated: “The survey represents an important compass for aligning the outputs of educational institutions with the needs of the labour market. It opens horizons for graduates to learn about the specializations and skills demanded by the market and expands their opportunities by introducing them to available prospects for productive work and entrepreneurship, particularly concerning self-employment and establishing their own companies, whether small, medium, or innovative startups.”

She explained that the survey followed a scientific methodology considering the sectoral and stratified representation of companies, using standardized measurement tools that allow for comparison over time. The data collection period extended for nearly two consecutive months from 21 April to 30 June of this year. The study population consisted of 4,430 establishments, with 1,083 companies responding, achieving a response rate of 24.4%, which reflects a good level of cooperation and responsibility from the private sector.

She clarified that the results presented a clear and encouraging picture on more than one level. Regarding the nature of employment, 68% of employers stated that they had employed Omani higher education graduates in their establishments, indicating growing confidence in the sustainability of employing national competencies. Another 47% reported that this category of graduates entered work without prior practical experience, an indicator of companies’ readiness to invest in training graduates internally and building experience on the job.
