MUSCAT: The first phase of the field hospital that will be used to treat coronavirus patients will have 100 beds, a top Ministry of Health official said.

The field hospital located at old Muscat airport premises is expected to open this month and is equipped with all treatment facilities. “The first phase will have 100 beds while the facility will have a capacity of having up to 200-300 beds,” said Dr. Mohammed Al Hosni, Undersecretary of Ministry of Health.

According to Al Hosni, opening the field hospital will reduce the pressure on other hospitals in the country. On Monday, the Supreme Committee members headed by His Excellency Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal Al Busaidi, Minister of Interior visited the hospital premises.

On Sunday, Oman registered the highest number of Covid-19 cases. 1,722 cases were recorded in 72 hours including 28 deaths.
