MUSCAT — The Royal Oman Police (ROP) have arrested two individuals of Asian nationality accused of detaining a fellow expatriate and demanding ransom money from his family in their home country, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) said on Tuesday.

The North Al Batinah Governorate Police Command carried out the arrests after the suspects allegedly lured the victim, a compatriot, to their residence in the Wilayat of Saham, where they held him captive. They then contacted his family abroad, claiming he owed them money and demanding payment for his release.

Authorities said legal procedures are underway against the accused.

The ROP reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding residents and ensuring public safety, urging the public to promptly report any incidents of extortion or unlawful confinement.
