MUSCAT – Oman has extended the validity of residence cards from three years to ten years under a new amendment to the executive regulations of the Civil Status Law, issued by Lieutenant General Hassan bin Mohsen Al Shuraiqi, Inspector General of Police and Customs.

The decision, published under Ministerial Decision No. 157/2025, forms part of ongoing efforts by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) to streamline administrative procedures and improve the efficiency of civil documentation services.

Under the amendment, the residence card will now be valid for ten years, depending on categories and regulations set by the Director General. Cardholders must renew their cards within 30 days of expiry, according to the updated law.

The new regulation also introduces revised fees: RO 5 per year for issuance and renewal, and RO 20 for replacing a lost or damaged card.

The latest amendment replaces the earlier decision issued in August 2025, which had set three different validity options for residence cards—one, two, and three years each carrying its own fee structure.

Meanwhile, the Omani national identity card remains unchanged, retaining its 10-year validity and an issuance fee of RO 10.
