Muscat – According to details released by the CPA, the dispute arose after a consumer contracted a commercial establishment to replace his vehicle’s engine with a new one. However, after receiving the vehicle, the consumer experienced repeated mechanical failures. Attempts to have the workshop address the issue proved unsuccessful, prompting the consumer to file an official complaint with the CPA’s regional department.
Following a thorough review and legal mediation process, the CPA facilitated a settlement agreement under which the contract between both parties was terminated. As part of the resolution, the workshop agreed to purchase the vehicle from the consumer for RO 1,500, effectively closing the case to the satisfaction of both parties.
The Authority reiterated the importance of businesses adhering to consumer protection laws and regulations, particularly in honouring contractual obligations and ensuring the quality of goods and services provided. Such compliance, it stressed, is essential to maintaining consumer trust and fostering a fair, transparent marketplace.
The CPA emphasized that its efforts align with the goals of Oman Vision 2040, which aim to foster a fair and transparent society, promote a sustainable economic environment, and ensure a competitive and secure national economy for all stakeholders.
