Muscat – The inaugural edition of the conference coincides with the celebration of the Golden Jubilee marking the release of the first issue of the Journal of Oman Studies in 1975.
The conference sessions will feature research papers presented under several key themes, the most notable of which are: The Oman Peninsula in Prehistory (From the Stone Age to the Pre-Islamic Periods); The Oman Peninsula during the Islamic Periods (Early, Middle, and Late); Rock Art in the Oman Peninsula; Built Heritage in the Sultanate of Oman; Paleoclimate and Paleoenvironment in the Oman Peninsula; and Underwater Archaeology.
More than fifty scholars, researchers, and academics from Oman and abroad are scheduled to present their research papers at the conference. They represent a wide range of international archaeological survey and excavation missions operating in Oman under the supervision of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, as well as related academic departments at Sultan Qaboos University, in addition to a number of leading international and regional specialised organisations, universities, and institutes.
