MUSCAT : The pivotal panel, titled ‘Maximising Sustainable Impact Through Waqf Funds and Islamic Takaful,’ brought together leaders from government, finance, and investment sectors to explore how endowments (Waqf) and Islamic insurance (Takaful) can be better integrated for greater societal and economic benefit.
Moderated by writer and economic analyst Salim Saif Al Abdali, the discourse included key insights from Ahmed Al Harthy, Director of the Department of Endowments at the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs; Hamza Al Saadi, AGM and Head of Governance at Takaful Oman; Sheikh Issa Al Harthy, Senior Associate at Oman National Investments Development Company; and Dr. Ali Al Jahdhami, Sharia Supervisor Board Member of Bank Nizwa.
The experts unanimously stressed that while the core Islamic banking sector in Oman has matured, unlocking the true potential of the broader Islamic financial ecosystem requires strategic efforts to channel Waqf funds into productive investments and expand the role of Takaful in risk management.
