MUSCAT — Muscat has been ranked first in the world in the Traffic Systems Efficiency Index, a recognition officials say underscores Oman’s growing reputation for urban management and road safety.

The accolade has been credited to the leadership of Lieutenant General Hassan bin Mohsen Al-Shuraiqi, Inspector General of Police and Customs, and to the Royal Oman Police’s push to modernise traffic infrastructure and personnel. The upgrades, from digital monitoring to streamlined road networks, are aimed at meeting the demands of a rapidly expanding city while safeguarding public safety.

In a statement, the police described the ranking as a reflection of “remarkable progress through advanced technologies, improved infrastructure, and skilled personnel,” positioning traffic management as part of a broader effort to improve quality of life and create “a stable environment for society.”

The recognition is being hailed as a testament not only to the discipline of the Royal Oman Police but also to Oman’s ambition to blend safety with innovation in its cities — placing Muscat among the global leaders in urban resilience.
