MUSCAT : Omantel, Oman’s largest telecom operator, has signed an expanded two-year partnership with the Oman Football Association (OFA), becoming the exclusive sponsor of the His Majesty the Sultan’s Cup and the main sponsor of the national football team.

The deal builds on Omantel’s 17-year association with Omani football, which began in 2008 when the company first sponsored the national team—a partnership that coincided with Oman’s Gulf Cup victory. Omantel later became title sponsor of the domestic top flight, which has been known as the Omantel League since then.

Under the new agreement, Omantel will not only support the Sultan’s Cup and the national team but also provide logistical and technical backing to enhance player readiness and team performance in international competitions. The company said its contribution would go beyond financial support to include advanced digital solutions, smart connectivity, and digital platforms to improve fan engagement.

“Supporting Omani sports is part of our social responsibility as a national company,” said Acting CEO Sami bin Ahmed Al Ghassani. “This partnership reflects our commitment to empowering youth, strengthening national identity through sport, and aligning with Oman Vision 2040, which places sport as a pillar of human and social development.”

OFA Chairman Sayyid Suleiman bin Hamoud Al Busaidi welcomed the renewed partnership, calling it “a cornerstone for the success of national teams and domestic competitions” and praising Omantel’s role in backing national development goals and helping build a more competitive and sustainable sports sector.

Omantel said it views sport as a universal language that fosters unity, inspires creativity among young people, and supports the growth of a vibrant, digitally empowered society.
