1,600 wild plants cultivated in Al Dakhiliyah as Oman expands green drive

The Environment Authority in South Al Sharqiyah has launched a campaign to cultivate wild plants in Al Ghayna, Wilayat of Jalan Bani Bu Hassan, planting more than 1,600 saplings.

MUSCAT : The campaign, supported by the Propagation Center at Al Sulayyil Natural Park, is part of the “Green List” initiatives aimed at combating desertification, mitigating climate change, and enhancing biodiversity in Oman. It also coincides with the start of the new planting season, reinforcing the country’s vision for a sustainable environmental future.

The initiative saw strong participation from local government bodies, including the Departments of Municipal Affairs in Jalan Bani Bu Hassan and Jalan Bani Bu Ali, alongside more than 70 volunteers, specialists, and representatives from the Environment Authority.

Nizar bin Salem Al Arimi, Director of the Environment Department in South Al Sharqiyah, praised the active role of the community, calling it “a key partner in the success of these efforts.” He stressed the importance of organizing regular planting campaigns and urged wider collaboration with both government and private sectors to ensure long-term environmental balance and sustainability.
