MUSCAT : The operation, conducted as part of intensified market monitoring targeting commercial establishments, uncovered prohibited types of non-smoked chewing tobacco stored in the store’s warehouse. The seized items included ‘Afdhal’ brand (43 bags of 50 grams each, and 37 packs), ‘Pan Bahar’ (330 bags of 4 grams each), ‘Shaker’ (272 packs of 180 grams each), and ‘Raja Kallis’ (13 packs).
In total, 1,018 bags and boxes were confiscated. This constitutes a violation of the Consumer Protection Law, pursuant to Decision No. 256/2015, amended by Decision No. 206/2023, which prohibits trading in non-smoked chewing tobacco in any form or under any name.
Legal measures have been taken against the violators, and all seized products are being prepared for destruction.
It is noteworthy that the Authority continues its inspection and monitoring campaigns aimed at providing safe markets for consumers, within its proactive plan to ensure markets are free from violations. This is in line with the national efforts to enhance quality of life and achieve a sustainable healthy environment in accordance with Oman Vision 2040.
The Authority also urges consumers to cooperate by reporting any violations through its various communication channels, in order to safeguard their health and the safety of society.
