MUSCAT — Telecommunications giant Omantel has announced a leadership transition, with Chief Executive Officer Talal bin Said Al Mamari stepping down after more than 11 years at the helm.

During his tenure, Al Mamari guided the company through a period of significant transformation, strengthening domestic market share, diversifying revenue streams, and leading expansion into emerging digital sectors. He also oversaw Omantel’s regional growth, most notably through the acquisition of a controlling stake in Zain, consolidating the company’s leadership in the submarine cable sector.

The Board of Directors paid tribute to Al Mamari’s “determination and wisdom,” crediting him with placing Omantel among the most prominent telecom players in the region.

To ensure continuity, the Board has appointed Eng. Sami bin Ahmed Al Ghassani, Chief Technology and Digitization Officer, as Acting CEO. He will assume the role alongside his current duties until a permanent successor is named.

The company said the move would ensure Omantel’s continued progress and reaffirmed its commitment to growth and innovation under the interim leadership.
