Nairobi: The discussions, held within the Sub-Committee of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), reviewed UNEP’s performance and outlined its strategy for 2026–2029. Delegates also explored mechanisms for enhanced funding and drafted proposals for resolutions to be considered at UNEA-7.
In a video address, His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority and President of the upcoming Assembly, stressed that UNEA-7 will be a pivotal platform for multilateral environmental action. He expressed confidence that member states could deliver “tangible, bold, and time-bound results.”
HE Dr. Al Amri highlighted the importance of early consultations, commending the UNEP Secretariat’s efforts in engaging member states and reminding participants of the September 29, 2025, deadline for submissions. He also emphasized the role of regional forums such as the African Ministers of Environment Conference (AMCEN) and the Asia-Pacific Forum in building consensus.

He further called for a declaration that is ambitious yet practical, concise, and focused on implementation, underscoring the need for parliaments and governments alike to prioritize action over rhetoric.
