MUSCAT : The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has rejected social media claims alleging that the toy “Labubu” has been banned in Oman, stressing that the reports are inaccurate.
The Authority clarified that while no restrictions have been placed on Labubu, inspection teams recently seized 347 children’s toys and school supplies featuring skull imagery, including a doll known as “Kuromi,” accessories, and school bags.
These products were confiscated for breaching Article 26 of Executive Regulation No. 77/2017, which prohibits goods that offend religious values, public morals, or modesty. Legal action was taken against the outlets involved.

A video circulating online had alleged that both the CPA and Muscat Municipality banned the toy, sparking widespread discussion. The Authority responded by reaffirming its commitment to safe markets and encouraging consumers to report violations through official channels.
Labubu craze and global success
While rumors of a local ban were dismissed, Labubu continues to enjoy massive popularity worldwide. Its maker, China’s Pop Mart, reported that the toy’s franchise generated 4.81 billion RMB (about $670 million) in revenue in the first half of 2025, a stunning 668% increase from last year. Overall, Pop Mart’s net profit soared nearly 400% in the same period, driven by Labubu’s status as a global collectible phenomenon.
The quirky plush has become a cultural sensation, embraced by international celebrities and fans alike, fueling what analysts describe as one of the fastest-growing toy trends in recent years.
