LONDON — The World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) has announced the appointment of Stig Kirk Ørskov as its next Chief Executive Officer, effective early 2026. Ørskov will succeed Vincent Peyrègne, who has led the association since 2012.
Ørskov, currently CEO of Denmark’s JP/Politiken Media Group and Vice-President of WAN-IFRA, brings more than two decades of leadership in the media industry. His six years of service on WAN-IFRA’s board have positioned him as a key figure in shaping the organisation’s global agenda.
“Stig’s visionary leadership, deep understanding of the media industry, and commitment to journalistic values make him the ideal candidate to steer WAN-IFRA in a rapidly evolving media landscape,” said Ladina Heimgartner, Chairwoman of WAN-IFRA and CEO of Ringier Media Switzerland.

Peyrègne, who will step down after 13 years as CEO, leaves behind a legacy of growth, financial stability, and advocacy on critical issues such as press freedom, digital transformation, and business sustainability. Following the handover, he will continue supporting the association as Senior Strategic Advisor to ensure a smooth transition.
Reflecting on his tenure, Peyrègne said: “I am proud of what we have achieved thanks to an exceptionally committed team and supportive Board members over the past twelve years. It is an honour to pass the torch to Stig Ørskov, a remarkable manager with an impressive track record who will take WAN-IFRA to a new level.”
The transition is seen as the beginning of a new chapter for WAN-IFRA, with Ørskov expected to drive strategic initiatives that strengthen collaboration, innovation, and resilience among news publishers worldwide.
WAN-IFRA’s current Executive Board is led by President Ladina Heimgartner, with Mariam Mammen Mathew (CEO, Manorama Online, India) serving as Vice-President, alongside Ørskov until the end of 2025. Other board members include Sandy Prieto-Romualdez (Philippine Daily Inquirer), Pia Rehnquist (Bonnier News Local, Sweden), Luciano Stulin (IPS Group, Germany), Paul Verwilt (Mediahuis, Belgium), David Walmsley (The Globe and Mail, Canada), and Werner Zitzmann (AMI, Colombia).
