MUSCAT – In a notice released as part of the initiative, the Public Prosecution detailed the following protective measures to be enforced during the investigation or trial of a human trafficking case:
- Victims must be informed of their legal rights in a language they understand, and be given the opportunity to describe their legal, physical, psychological, and social condition.
- Victims requiring specific care or shelter are to be referred to the relevant authorities. They may be placed in medical or psychological rehabilitation centres, care homes, or residential facilities.
- Adequate protection must be provided to victims or witnesses when needed.
- Victims or witnesses may be allowed to remain in the Sultanate if required for the investigation or trial, as ordered by the Public Prosecution or the court.
- As emphasised under Article 5 of Oman’s Anti-Human Trafficking Law, safety is a right guaranteed to every individual.
It may be noted that the Aman campaign, which runs for three months, seeks to enhance public awareness, improve prevention strategies, support victims, and bolster national and international cooperation in combating human trafficking.
