MUSCAT – Drilling operations are scheduled to commence gradually starting in the fourth quarter of 2026.

This agreement marks a significant expansion milestone within the framework of the extended partnership between Abraj and PDO, highlighting Abraj’s capabilities in delivering high-performance, safe, and internationally aligned drilling solutions.

Hood bin Khalfan Al Barashdi, Acting General Manager of Business Development at Abraj Energy Services, stated that the agreement affirms the company’s operational excellence and the confidence it has earned through its competitive, efficient, and safe services. He emphasised Abraj’s advanced fleet and highly skilled technical team as key strengths supporting its expansion with PDO to achieve shared goals, enhance in-country value (ICV), and reinforce the company’s role in powering Oman’s oil and energy sector.

As part of its ongoing expansion, Abraaj recently signed an additional contract with BP Oman to provide drilling services in Block 61, in addition to a new contract with Ara Petroleum Limited to drill three wells in Block 44. It also expanded its operations in the Wafra field, shared between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, by signing a contract to provide a third 3,000-horsepower drilling rig. This step reflects its regional expansion strategy and strengthens its position in strategic projects in the oil and gas sectors across the region.
Engineer Sulaiman bin Abdullah Al Salmi, Head of the Gas Well Drilling Team at PDO, noted that this agreement reinforces the strategic relationship between PDO and Abraj, based on shared commitment to safety, operational excellence, and sustainability in Oman’s energy sector.

Since 2020, Abraj Energy Services has delivered more than RO 850 million in In-Country Value, with an Omanisation rate nearing 93 percent. Operations linked to PDO alone have generated RO 79.1 million in ICV over the past three years, 78 percent of total spending.

These figures reflect Abraj’s commitment to supporting national priorities and its pivotal role in developing the oil and energy sectors in the Sultanate of Oman.

It’s worth noting that Abraaj ended 2024 with positive operational and financial results, with revenues reaching RO 151.6 million, operating profits before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization reaching RO 53 million, and net profit after tax reaching RO 16.9 million.

The company also achieved exceptional occupational health and safety indicators, completing three consecutive years of zero lost-time injury (LTI) operations across all its operating units. Drilling rigs recorded high utilisation rates exceeding 86 percent, and well maintenance rigs reaching 100 percent, reflecting the long-term resilience of its business and the deep trust its partners place in its services.
