MUSCAT – Responding to a question on whether the smart surveillance system extends to alternative mobility vehicles, the ROP clarified that the monitoring system is designed to cover all road users within the camera’s detection zones.
“The monitoring system will cover all road users within the camera’s detection zones, including riders of electric scooters if they use main roads. The aim is to ensure the safety of all road users by monitoring compliance with traffic laws, especially as the use of alternative mobility options increases in Oman,” the ROP stated.
This comprehensive approach means that electric scooter riders, if they venture onto main roads, will fall under the purview of these advanced cameras.
The primary objective is to ensure compliance with traffic laws across all modes of transport. As the use of electric scooters and similar personal mobility devices continues to increase throughout the Sultanate, the ROP is proactively addressing the potential safety implications.
