MUSCAT : During the first meeting, chaired by His Excellency Dr. Saeed bin Mohammed Al Saqri, Minister of Economy and Chairman of the Committee, the committee discussed the Office’s proposed projects for the coming two years.
The topics which included implementation of future-oriented studies, launching of national capacity-building programmes focused on training in future-thinking skills and methodologies, and developing guides and reference documents to support future-focused planning across government sectors.
The committee also approved a series of programmes aimed at promoting a culture of future thinking, one of the core pillars of the Office’s mandate. These initiatives include organizing future foresight sessions, raising public awareness about upcoming global and local changes, and collaborating with institutions to explore and invest in emerging future opportunities.
The establishment of the National Office for Future Foresight aligns with global transformations that demand proactive policymaking and strategic planning. The Office plays a crucial role in monitoring trends, proposing future-ready policies, and ensuring that national development plans remain flexible and adaptive to change.
One of the key tasks in the next phase will be the formulation of future forecasts at both national and sectoral levels, as well as providing strategic alternatives for the work of institutions within the national development system.
