Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, in coordination with the Royal Oman Police, inaugurated the new 9-kilometre section on June 26.
The newly opened section extends from the Tahwa turnoff in Al Kamil Wal Wafi to the Al Fulaij area in Sur, passing through the vehicle tunnel at Tay. This segment marks a significant milestone in Phase II – Part II of the dualisation project aimed at improving traffic flow and safety in the region.
Munir bin Ahmed Al Alawi, Director of the Roads Department in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, told the Oman News Agency that the dual carriageway features three lanes in each direction and incorporates essential traffic safety measures. These include iron barriers, directional and warning signage, and secure roadside and tunnel crossings to protect motorists.
