Muscat: The seizure, which also included mixing equipment and construction waste, has resulted in a fine of RO 1,000 and legal action against those involved.
The operation was carried out as part of ongoing market inspection efforts by the CPA’s Market Regulation and Monitoring Section aimed at safeguarding the construction sector and protecting consumer rights.
According to the CPA, the case began with a report from a consumer who suspected commercial fraud involving the mixing of fine construction sand with sea sand and waste materials, and marketing it falsely as plaster-grade sand. Following a detailed field investigation, CPA inspectors confirmed the report, uncovering large quantities of adulterated sand, mixing equipment, and construction waste at the site.
The individual operating the site and the truck driver involved were apprehended. During questioning, both admitted to the fraudulent activity. Investigations further revealed that the site was operating without a valid license for handling construction materials.
