Man sentenced to one-year in jail, OMR 2,000 fine for violating movement ban in Oman

MUSCAT: A court in North Al Batinah has sentenced an Omani citizen to one year in jail and imposed a fine of OMR 2,000 for violating the movement ban issued by the Supreme Committee.

In a statement issued by the Public Prosecution, the convict drove his vehicle under the influence of alcohol during the movement ban. The court also withdrew his driving licence for six months. “The investigation authorities found that the convict recklessly drove his vehicle in residential neighborhoods under the influence of alcohol, he was referred to the court to complete legal procedures,” the Public Prosecution added.

To contain the spread of coronavirus, Oman has imposed a movement ban from 9pm to 5am until August 15.
