MUSCAT: More than 1500 properties owned by foreigners have been transferred to citizens, the Ministry of Housing said on Monday.
Based on the Royal Decree No 29/2018, expatriates have been barred from ownership of land in some designated places in the country.
“The ownership of land have been transferred to Omani citizens from November 2018 until the end of June 2020 in various governorates,” Ministry said.

As per the government decision, foreigners (non-Omanis) are not allowed to own land in the following places:
1- Governorates of Dhofar except for the wilayas of Salalah, Musandam, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, and Al Wusta.
2- Wilayats of Liwa, Shinas, and Masirah.
3- Al Jabal Al Akhdar, Jabal Shams, and any other mountains of strategic importance determined by the competent authorities.
4- Islands in Oman.
5- Sites close to palaces, security and military authorities, which are determined by the competent authorities.
6- The archaeological and old lanes.
