MUSCAT: The number of Indian expats living in Oman has dropped 11.2 percent in the first half of this year, data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) has revealed.
The number of Indian expatriates dropped in March from 596,009 to 567,341 in June. It is worth noting that more than many Indians made use of the repatriation efforts to return home due to the coronavirus pandemic.
However despite a 8.9% steady drop in population, the Bangladesh nationals continues to remain the largest expat community in Oman. There are now 590,748 Bangladeshis living in Oman.

On Sunday, based on the data by NCSI, The Arabian Stories reported a sharp decline in expat population in Oman. Nearly 80,000 expats left the country in four months. The data showed that the number of expatriate workers decreased 9.3% in the first half of 2020 and the population now stands at 1,589,883.
Pakistanis constituted the third largest community with a population of 192,676, a decrease of 8.9 percent, while Filipino and Egyptian workers registered 47,537 and 33,234, respectively.
