MUSCAT : The council affirmed that divorce initiated via platforms such as WhatsApp, Instagram, and Snapchat are legally binding in Oman, provided the pronouncement by the husband is definitively proven.
In a statement highlighting the foundational importance of marriage as a “sacred bond and a documented contract based on love and compassion between spouses”, the SJC called it a “great responsibility because it is the foundation for building a stable family.”
Addressing the question of divorce through digital means, the council explicitly stated: “Divorce conducted through modern technology, including WhatsApp, Instagram, Snapchat, and others, is valid if it is conclusively proven that it was issued by the husband.”
