Muscat – In an interview with a local radio channel, Mubarak Al Dohani, the Ministry’s Director General of Planning and official spokesperson, highlighted the critical need for consumers to verify the recipient account when making payments via QR code.
“When paying via QR code, ensure that the account associated with it is in the name of the business establishment, and not a personal account, to ensure your rights as a consumer,” he stressed.
Al Dhohani also underscored the significance of electronic payments, explaining that it not only streamlines transactions but also plays a vital role in supporting the national economy. Among the benefits he highlighted were combating tax evasion, reducing hidden trade activities, and strengthening efforts to fight money laundering and terrorist financing.
The Ministry also reminded business owners of their obligation to provide electronic payment options without imposing unjustified additional fees on customers. “We emphasize the importance of reporting any store that does not provide electronic payment services, or imposes unjustified additional fees. The consumer is our mirror and partner in regulating the market,” he stated.
