Muscat: Speaking to the Oman News Agency, His Excellency Ambassador Abdullah bin Nasser Al Rahbi, Oman’s Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League, emphasized the Sultanate’s belief in the League as a vital platform for unity, capable of addressing regional and international challenges. He highlighted Oman’s active participation in both ministerial and technical meetings, reinforcing its ongoing support for comprehensive reform and greater efficiency within the League’s structure.

His Excellency stated that despite the ongoing talk about reforming the joint Arab action system, the Sultanate of Oman believes that any development process must be comprehensive and gradual, with a clear will among member states to ensure its success. He noted that the Arab League, despite the challenges, remains a pivotal element in strengthening Arab solidarity, as the Arab nation today needs to intensify joint efforts to address the security, economic, and social issues affecting its peoples.

His Excellency added that Oman is committed to an interactive role in all League meetings, whether at the ministerial level, where His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs is keen to actively participate and coordinate continuously with His Excellency the Secretary-General and his counterparts from the Arab Foreign Ministers, or at the technical level, through the presence of Ministry officials in all League activities. He pointed out that this presence reflects Oman’s belief in the importance of the League as a regional umbrella that contributes to achieving Arab integration and provides an effective platform for addressing common issues in a spirit of cooperation and understanding.

Regarding transforming shared Arab visions into tangible projects, His Excellency pointed out that achieving food security, economic integration, and other shared Arab visions requires clear political will from Arab countries, along with more effective implementation mechanisms within the Arab League. Several initiatives have been launched in this regard, but their success depends on a strong institutional environment and close coordination among member states. He explained that the Sultanate of Oman supports these efforts through its participation in specialized economic and technical committees, and by strengthening bilateral and regional cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, and sustainable development.

Ambassador Sheikh Faisal bin Omar Al Marhoon, Head of the Arab Department at Oman’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, noted key lessons learned from the League’s 80-year history, including the significance of continuous participation, constructive dialogue, and compromise as critical tools to overcome divisions.

Al Marhoon stressed that economic integration remains crucial, highlighting projects such as the Greater Arab Free Trade Area, electricity interconnections, food security initiatives, and transport infrastructure as pathways toward comprehensive Arab economic stability and growth.

He called for updating the League’s working mechanisms, incorporating digital technologies, and creating effective arbitration systems to manage differences and enhance decision-making efficiency.

The Sultanate has participated consistently in every Arab Summit since 1973, maintaining a clear vision in its foreign policy rooted in balance and wisdom. Ambassador Al Marhoon emphasized that Oman, under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik, continues this deep-rooted tradition, aiming for closer Arab cooperation and economic prosperity.

In his first address as Sultan in January 2020, His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik affirmed Oman’s dedication: “Regarding Arab affairs, we will continue to support the Arab League and cooperate with our brothers, the leaders of Arab countries, to achieve the goals of the Arab League, improve the lives of our citizens, distance this region from conflicts and disputes, and work to achieve economic integration that serves the aspirations of the Arab peoples.”
