‘Individual in question is not a registered investor in Oman’, SEZAD issues clarification on social media post

The Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD) has released a clarification statement addressing recent remarks circulating online regarding investment advantages within the zone.

Muscat – SEZAD clarified that the individual who made the circulated remarks is not a registered investor in Oman and has not submitted any investment applications within the zone.

“In reference to the video clip circulating on social media featuring a speaker discussing the investment advantages in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD), it would like to clarify that the individual in question is not a registered investor in the Sultanate of Oman and has never submitted any investment application within the Zone Nevertheless, SEZAD has reached out to him to understand the basis of his analysis,” stated the clarification.

SEZAD emphasized the importance of relying on accurate information and urged the public to verify any claims through official channels to prevent the spread of misinformation.

“We encourage everyone to verify information through official channels and avoid sharing unverified claims that may misrepresent the Zone’s investment environment. For accurate details and investment inquiries, please contact: Call Center: 1919 Email: info@duqm.gov.om,” it stated.

The statement emphasised that the Special Economic Zone at Duqm maintains a strong and competitive investment environment, with total investments exceeding RO 6 billion (approximately USD 16 billion) by the end of 2024.

It further highlighted that the Zone offers a range of competitive investment incentives, including income tax exemptions for up to 30 years (renewable), VAT exemptions, customs duty exemptions, and usufruct rights for land for up to 50 years (renewable). There are no minimum capital requirements, allowing investors to start projects based on their capacity, and the Zone allows 100 percent foreign ownership with no restrictions on profit or capital repatriation.

The Zone offers a one-stop-shop service for all investor transactions and the immediate issuance of permits and licenses upon submission of an investment application. It also provides an O-Map platform, allowing investors to select land plots electronically, as well as facilitated labour licensing procedures to support businesses in attracting skilled talent.

“SEZAD calls on all parties to verify the accuracy of any information related to the Investment environment in Duqm and refrain from circulating any unverified details that may harm the reputation of the Zone,” the clarification concluded.
