SAUDI ARABIA: The surge in worshippers comes as the Kingdom implements cutting-edge monitoring systems to enhance crowd control and pilgrim safety.

The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque confirmed that reader sensors at the mosque’s main entrances are now tracking real-time worshipper numbers. In addition, smart cameras powered by AI have been installed to detect movement and pinpoint congestion areas, particularly in high-density zones like the Mataf (circumambulation area around the Kaaba) and Mas’a (Safa-Marwah area).

Alongside technology-driven crowd management, Mecca’s security patrols are working 24/7 to maintain order, especially as Ramadan approaches—one of the busiest times for Umrah. Officers are actively involved in:

Managing large crowds

Assisting the elderly

Reuniting lost children with families

Providing guidance to visitors
