MUSCAT : The initiative, held in Wilayat of Yanqul, highlighted the role of ecosystems, the threats facing wildlife, and Oman’s efforts to protect natural habitats.

Specialists from the Yanqul Monitoring Unit led the campaign, targeting school students with interactive sessions on biodiversity preservation. Officials from the Environment Authority outlined their conservation strategies, including the creation of reserves, legal regulations, and strict deterrent measures against environmental violations.

Walid bin Suleiman Al Farsi, an expert from the monitoring unit, delivered a lecture on modern monitoring techniques used to track and safeguard wildlife populations. He also shed light on ongoing projects, field surveys, and studies aimed at assessing species diversity in Al Dhahirah Governorate.

Speaking on the significance of the occasion, Yasser bin Hamoud Al Hanaei, Head of the Environmental Control Department, emphasized that World Wildlife Day serves as a crucial reminder of the need to preserve biological diversity. The day also commemorates the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), which was adopted in 1973 to curb the exploitation of endangered species.
