MUSCAT : This innovative service, which uses carbon dioxide gas instead of traditional iodine dye, was introduced by the Department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at the Sultan Qaboos Comprehensive Cancer Care and Research Center. This marks the first use of carbon dioxide gas for vascular imaging in the Sultanate of Oman.
The launch of this new technology is seen as a major leap forward in the field of interventional radiology and catheterization, offering a safer alternative to the traditional imaging methods. Traditionally, iodine-based dyes have been used in angiography procedures to visualize blood vessels. However, this innovative approach utilizing carbon dioxide gas promises significant benefits, particularly for patients with kidney problems or allergies to iodine-based contrast agents.
The new service will allow healthcare providers to perform vascular interventions with greater precision and safety, allowing for broader treatment options for patients who require delicate and complex interventions.
