MUSCAT : The event took place at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah, under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar.
As part of its first phase, the initiative will focus on the Wilayats of Dhalkut and Rakhyut from 2025 to 2030. Experts from the Global Green Growth Institute presented the project’s framework to representatives from government agencies and investment firms in the livestock sector.

Eng. Zahran bin Ahmed Al-Abdelsalam, Director General of the General Directorate of Environment in Dhofar and Chairman of the Pasture Resting Committee, emphasized the project’s sustainable approach to addressing overgrazing and early grazing in Dhofar’s mountain ranges.
“The initiative comes within the framework of sustainable solutions to the phenomenon of overgrazing and early grazing in the mountains of Dhofar Governorate by increasing the economic return of local community products such as milk, meat, fertilizer and economic crops so that livestock breeders transform from consumers to producers, and mountain products become a tributary to the national economy,” Al-Abdelsalam explained.

The project is a collaborative effort involving the Global Green Growth Institute, the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, and several local, regional, and international partners.

It aims to restore vegetation cover in Dhofar using nature-based solutions, providing long-term environmental and economic benefits while ensuring sustainable grazing practices for future generations.
