Muscat – Under the slogan ‘Beware, It May Not Be What It Seems,’ the campaign aims to educate consumers and suppliers about the dangers of deceptive advertising practices.
The campaign aims to:
- Define misleading advertisements, their types, and their impact.
- Enhance consumer skills in verifying advertisements before making purchasing decisions.
- Educate suppliers on the difference between misleading practices and elements of attraction and excitement in advertisements.
- Raise awareness among all parties involved in the consumption process regarding promotional standards in online marketplaces.
Targeting a broad audience, including consumers of all ages and abilities, students, service providers, and advertisers, the campaign will address four key areas. These include defining misleading advertising, exploring local and international regulations, teaching consumers how to verify advertising claims, and differentiating between legitimate marketing and misleading tactics. The campaign will also cover promotion standards in online marketplaces.
The CPA recognises that misleading advertisements, whether online or in traditional media, pose a significant challenge. These ads can exploit consumer trust and provide false information for quick gains. The campaign aims to empower consumers with the knowledge and skills to identify and avoid falling victim to such deceptive practices.
The campaign also seeks to establish the concept of commitment to ethics and transparency among companies in their advertising campaigns, to ensure building long-term relationships with their customers and maintaining their reputation
