Muscat – The Supreme Judicial Council, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, and the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) have stressed the importance of this step in fostering a more dynamic and competitive business environment in Oman.
His Excellency Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan Al Busaidi, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council, emphasised that the new court would focus on resolving disputes involving merchants and issues related to investment contracts, helping to reduce pressure on the general courts. The establishment of a specialized judicial body will expedite legal proceedings and ensure timely justice in commercial cases, fostering a more efficient business environment.
H.E. Sayyid Busaidi stressed that the court would also play a crucial role in raising Oman’s attractiveness for foreign investments and improving the country’s economic competitiveness, supporting the long-term goals outlined in the ‘Oman Vision 2040’. He added that the Supreme Judicial Council is actively working on judicial and legislative projects aimed at enhancing the quality of legal rulings and addressing contemporary legal challenges.
His Excellency Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, also welcomed the royal directives, describing them as a strategic step toward modernizing Oman’s judicial system. He stated that the new court would significantly expedite the resolution of commercial and investment disputes, providing confidence to both local and international investors and contributing to the overall stability of businesses in the country.
The establishment of the Investment and Trade Court is expected to address many of the challenges facing the business sector, ensuring more efficient and fair judicial procedures. Al Yousef pointed out that this move would reduce the burden on public courts, enabling them to focus on non-commercial matters, while also ensuring specialized judges who are experts in trade and investment law.
Faisal bin Abdullah Al Rawas, Chairman of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, expressed that the royal directives reflect a clear commitment to developing the investment sector and improving the business climate in Oman. He highlighted that the creation of a specialized court for investment and commercial disputes would provide much-needed reassurance to investors, further supporting the growth of the private sector and enhancing the overall economic landscape of the Sultanate.
