Muscat – These efforts reflect the commitment of both nations to enhance ties for the benefit of their peoples, paving the way for broader and more comprehensive collaboration.

His Excellency Dr. Mohamad Maliki bin Osman, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Second Minister for Education of Singapore, highlighted the deep historical relations between the two countries. He emphasised that both nations share common goals and future visions, notably their commitment to achieving zero carbon neutrality by 2050.

H.E. Dr. Maliki also underscored the significance of the second strategic dialogue held in Muscat, which reflects the dedication of the two countries’ leaderships to advancing cooperation. The dialogue focused on exploring investment opportunities and reviewing the results of past collaborations aimed at promoting bilateral relations and strategic partnerships.

During the meeting, key topics of mutual interest were discussed, including advancements in technology, clean and renewable energy, food and water security, the digital economy, maritime security, and cybersecurity. H.E. Dr. Maliki expressed satisfaction with the growth of bilateral ties, especially as Oman and Singapore celebrated the 40th anniversary of their diplomatic relations. He noted that Oman is now Singapore’s seventh-largest trading partner.

A major milestone in the bilateral relationship occurred in 2023, when both countries agreed to elevate their diplomatic representation by upgrading consulates to resident embassies. This decision reflects the continued expansion of diplomatic and economic ties.

H.E. Dr. Maliki also pointed to the significant visits exchanged by the leadership of both countries. Notably, President S.R. Nathan of Singapore visited Oman in 2009, and His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik made a state visit to Singapore in late 2023. These visits serve as a testament to the mutual interest in advancing bilateral cooperation across various sectors.

Both nations also share a rich maritime history, symbolised by the ship ‘Jewel of Muscat,’ which was gifted by the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said to Singapore in 2010. The vessel, which undertook a historic journey from Oman to Singapore, is now displayed at the Maritime Museum on Sentosa Island, serving as a lasting symbol of cultural exchange between the two countries.
