MUSCAT : Completing a 14-year journey in supporting Omani youth through local sports teams, Bank Muscat, the leading financial services provider in the Sultanate of Oman, has launched the 2025 edition of its flagship CSR programme, Green Sports, on January 19^th 2025, and has invited all local sports teams who would like to apply for the programme to do so well before the deadline on 15 February 2025. This year too, 20 sports teams from different governorates will be provided support in one of the four categories available to them.

The Green Sports programme continues to thrive each year, bolstered by the successes from previous editions and the positive turnout shown by local sports teams. The scope of support includes greening of football fields with natural or synthetic turf, floodlights and water desalination equipment in areas facing problems of water salinity. These support areas focus on empowering youth by enhancing sports infrastructure and nurturing their skills, along with fostering cultural and social development for the community.

All teams who are interested to participate in this year’s edition can submit their applications digitally. All applicants should be able to showcase their positive impact and contributions to the local community. The landmark Green Sports Programme is one of Bank Muscat’s CSR initiatives, which draws from the values of leadership and partnership so as to create a positive impact on Omani society. The programme aims to develop and provide a sustainable infrastructure for sports fields in Oman. The facilities developed as part of the programme are often used as a venue for other social activities by local communities, leading to stronger social bonding and positive behaviour among young people. It is a matter of great encouragement that Bank Muscat’s Green Sports programme has so far benefitted 203 teams with over 70,000 team members across the Sultanate since its launch in 2012.

Local sports teams play a vital role in engaging young people of all ages. Recently, several new sports fields have been upgrades with new natural or synthetic turf, floodlights and water desalination equipment. Going forward, the Bank will enhance collaboration with all stakeholders to maximize the programme’s long-term benefits and optimize green spaces for community development.
