MUSCAT: Two-time champions Oman will face Bahrain in the 26th edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup at the Jaber Al Ahmad International Stadium on Saturday at 8:00pm (Oman time).
The Rashid Jaber coached Oman reached the final six times, after winning the title twice in the 19th and 23rd editions, and lost the final in the 17th, 18th, and 25th editions. But coach Jaber is not looking at the previous history of the championship. “You cannot look at the past and decide the final tomorrow. We need to respect our opposition. Bahrain is a strong side and we need to respect their ability to win games. But our boys are ready for the big game and we hope to win the Cup,” Jaber said at the pre-match press conference in Kuwait.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MCSY) has announced nine flights which will carry the Omani fans to Kuwait on Saturday. This will be organised in cooperation with a number of public and private sector companies. Meanwhile, the Oman Football Association (OFA) has managed to allocate more than 20,000 tickets for Omani fans. The stadium can accommodate 60,000 people.
