MUSCAT : The day, which is celebrated across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, emphasizes the importance of preserving biodiversity and raising awareness about the conservation of wildlife.
GCC Wildlife Day plays a pivotal role in educating citizens and residents about the need to safeguard ecosystems and endangered species. The event underscores the significance of the Convention on the Conservation of Wildlife and its Natural Habitats, which aims to protect vulnerable wildlife populations and their habitats across the region.
In line with this global effort, Oman’s Environment Authority has implemented a series of vital conservation initiatives. These include extensive research surveys, field studies, and legislative actions to preserve the Sultanate’s wildlife and enhance its biodiversity. Notable efforts include the National Biodiversity Survey Project, the Marine Mammal Species Survey Project in Musandam Governorate, and the National Campaign to Combat Invasive Birds.
