Muscat: The Tourism Committee of Oman’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), chaired by Dr. Suhaim bint Ahmed Al Harthi, convened a strategic meeting to address challenges and drive innovation in the tourism sector. Representatives from the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, tourism companies, and committee members participated in the discussions aimed at enhancing the sector’s regional and international competitiveness.
The committee introduced initiatives to reorganize the role of tourism agents, streamline their scope of work, and improve services provided to visitors. A significant focus was placed on developing Omani talent in tourism guidance, proposing measures such as halting the issuance of new visas for foreign tour guides and introducing educational programs in four key languages—Chinese, French, German, and Italian. A new job title, “Masar Guide,” was also proposed to create seasonal job opportunities for Omanis and bolster tourism activity.
Efforts to attract more tourists were spotlighted, including plans for summer initiatives showcasing Muscat’s charm and the organization of a tourism sector forum next February. The committee also suggested hosting a “cultural day” during Ramadan, in collaboration with foreign embassies, to blend global cultures with the essence of Ramadan.
