Muscat: The Digital Cooperation Organization, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, and the World Economic Forum, held a key workshop today aimed at attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) into Oman’s growing digital sector.

The workshop focused on developing policies to attract foreign investments, particularly in emerging technologies, and exploring ways to enhance the adoption of digital technologies across government, private, and academic institutions in Oman.

Discussions also centered around digital infrastructure investments and the potential for Omani companies to invest in foreign markets, expanding the export of digital services in line with Oman’s National Digital Economy Program and Vision 2040.

Mohsen bin Salem Al Araimi, Acting Director of the Technology Industry Department at the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, highlighted the critical role of continued support from the Digital Cooperation Organization and the World Economic Forum in driving digital investments. He emphasized that these efforts will help generate new job opportunities and enrich the nation’s knowledge base, contributing to the achievement of sustainable development goals.

Hajar Al-Hadawi, Senior Advisor to the Secretary-General of the Digital Cooperation Organization, reflected on the strides being made to overcome challenges in digital investments. She stressed that these initiatives would foster a robust digital economy and open doors to new growth opportunities in the country.

Matthew Stevenson, Head of Investments and Services at the World Economic Forum, underscored the importance of the session as part of broader efforts to stimulate digital investments in Oman. He noted that the collaboration of all stakeholders would be key to identifying the right policies that can spur innovation and support the country’s digital ambitions.

This initiative is part of a series of efforts undertaken by Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, in partnership with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, to promote emerging technology companies and attract digital investments. These efforts include participation in local and international events aimed at showcasing Oman’s digital economy.

The Digital Cooperation Organization, established in November 2020, is the world’s first independent intergovernmental body focused on fostering inclusive and sustainable digital growth. It brings together 16 member countries, offering a platform for collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing to drive the global digital economy.
