MUSCAT: Starting from July 12, both citizens and residents can renew their driving licence online through the Royal Oman Police website or its mobile App.
In order to renew the expired licence online, motorists should activate the PKI (electronic certification service) and store the result of the eye examination online. Renewed cards can be received from the nearest police station in different governorates of Oman.
How to activate PKI?
PKI is an electronic certification feature of the civil card that once activated will allow the user to use the card data for e-services. PKI enabled ID (resident and civil) cards have three lines of code in the back side. Request for an activation of PKI of your ID card at any ROP service counter and the PKI activation is enabled through a 6 digit code.

If the PKI is not compatible while renewing the licence online, the motorists can visit the mobile service provider and request for a PKI friendly Sim Card.
Get eye test for licence at optical shop
An eye test is mandatory for issuance and renewal of a driving licence and it can be done at one of the authorized optical shops in all governorates of the Sultanate.
ROP opened its service centres including traffic across all the governorates last week after it was suspended for nearly three months due to the coronavirus outbreak.
